Your hosting company decides how quickly your site opens, how fast it comes back after a problem, and whether you can restore last week's version when something breaks. The cheapest plan is rarely the cheapest choice, and the biggest plan is rarely necessary.
Here are the seven things we check before recommending a host, and how Hostinger fits each. We recommend it to most small business clients as a starting point. Plans and prices change often, so check the current details on their site before you buy.
1. Where the server is
Distance adds delay. If most of your visitors are in Sri Lanka, South Asia or Australia, a server in Europe or the US adds noticeable lag. Hostinger lets you choose a server location when you set up, so pick the one closest to your customers. If you sell mostly to the UK, a UK or European location is the better pick.
2. Backups you can restore in one click
A backup you cannot restore is not a backup. Look for daily backups and an on-demand restore button. At the time of writing, Hostinger's higher shared plans include daily backups, while the entry plan is weekly. For a business that takes orders or bookings, choose a plan with daily backups.
3. A free SSL certificate
SSL puts the padlock in the browser. Without it, browsers show "Not secure" and Google ranks you lower. Hostinger installs SSL automatically on its plans.
4. A fast web server
Speed comes from the server software as much as from the hardware. Hostinger runs LiteSpeed servers with NVMe storage and a built-in CDN, which is a good base for WordPress sites. Speed still depends on your site being built well: a hosting plan will not fix a 5MB homepage.
5. A control panel you can actually use
Hostinger uses its own control panel, hPanel, which is simpler than the traditional cPanel for common jobs such as adding an email address, installing WordPress or restoring a backup. If you will manage things yourself, this matters.
6. Support that answers
When your site is down at 9pm, you need a person. Hostinger offers 24/7 live chat in several languages. Test it before you commit: ask a question during the 30-day money-back period and see how quickly and clearly they answer.
7. An easy way out
Look for a money-back period and free migration so you are not locked in. Hostinger offers a 30-day money-back guarantee and free website migration, which lowers the risk of trying it.
Which Hostinger plan?
| Your site | Start with |
|---|---|
| Brochure site or small business, up to a few thousand visitors a month | A shared plan with daily backups |
| Busy WordPress or WooCommerce shop | A cloud plan |
| Custom software, Node.js apps, or you need full control | A VPS, and someone to manage it |
A note on domains and ownership
Most Hostinger plans include a free domain for the first year when you pay for a year or more. Register the domain in your own business name and keep the login. We see too many businesses whose domain is registered in a former developer's name.
What hosting does not include
Hosting keeps the server running. It does not harden your website, update your plugins, scan for malware or fix a broken theme. That is the work our Security & Care plans cover, and it applies whichever host you choose.
